Mancat Monday

On Saturday night, Mommy had some friends come over for dinner. They were drinking from those funny-shaped glasses and making a lot of noise.

Delilah loves company and flits around saying hello to everyone (especially the men), but I'm more of a one-on-one kinda guy and big crowds make me uncomfortable. I just stayed out of the way and let people come to me.

One of the guests was Remo, the guy who adopted my brother Ammon. Ammon and I used to be be pretty close when we were kittens (he's the little black one snuggled up with me), but we haven't seen each other since the day we were adopted.

I had some one-on-one time with Remo and I can see that my brother is a lucky cat! Remo is a very nice guy and I had a purr session with him (although, I don't think he purred much).

Mommy, of course, was asking Remo all about Ammon. He is doing very well except he also had a problem with cystitis like I did. She wonders if maybe it is genetic or had something to do with the fact that we weren't fed by our cat mom.

It turns out that Ammon has his picture on the internet doing a funny thing. It looks to me like he was just having fun, but all the humans laughed when they saw it. They laugh at the silliest things!

Maybe cystitis runs in the family, but, after seeing my brother Ammon, I think it's more likely that handsome mancats run in the family!

P.S. To answer Martin's comment, my little sister is the pretty grey and white kitty in the kitten picture.

Finally Friday

Once again, the humans don't have a comic for us to post! They have a couple in the works and they were going to finish them this week, but the The Ball Guy got called away with work, so he can't finish the drawing part. Mommy is completely incapable of drawing so she has to rely on him to get it finished. I figure most of you won't be too disappointed because we can post pictures of us!!

I'm very happy it's Friday for a couple of reasons. First, Mommy has a LOT of laundry to do. I love both dirty and clean laundry and so does Deli.

Here's how Delilah and I help out

And the other reason I'm looking forward to the weekend is, the weather has gone from unbearably hot and humid to downright chilly! Colder weather means snuggling, and lots of it!

Ahh...let's stay in bed all weekend!

I hope your weekend is as exciting as ours!

Awesomeness!

We were tagged by The Island Cats, Wally, Ernie and Zoey, so we have to post 7 things that make us awesome. Mommy says that the post would be too long if we both started going on about how awesome we are, so she is going to do it to keep the length down. I may be wrong, but it sounds like she's insinuating that we're self-centered! Anyway, here's Mommy talking about our awesomeness...

Both of my Monkeys are awesome but they're very long-winded when they talk about themselves.

I'll start with Delilah.

1.)Delilah is awesome because she does not put up with silliness. No matter how ridiculous the situation is, she keeps her cool.

2.) She's also very helpful. Deli is always there when you need a helping paw.

3.) Deli is always ready to have some fun. Even when she's relaxing, she has her toys close by in case a rousing game of fetch breaks out.

Now Samson.

4.) Sammy is always concerned about his hygiene. He's constantly cleaning himself and never leaves a spot unlicked.

5.) When it comes to taking care of pests (spiders, flies or toy mousies), he doesn't stop until the threat has been completely immobilized. Dissection will ensure that this particular toy mousie won't harm any of his housemates!

6.) He is constantly silly and has the most ridiculous poses I've ever seen! Samson is the biggest ham, in front of and away from the camera.

7.) Finally, they're both awesome because they love each other and me very much!

Thanks, Mommy!

We're taking the lazy way out by tagging anyone who wants to play this game!

P.S. Yesterday we posted a Wordless Wednesday about Misha and Pasha. Some of you were asking who they were. They are the sweet little girl kittens that recently moved in with Mommy's friend Jenn. She adopted them in June and you can read about them here

Tortie Tuesday with my Auntie Mattie

This Tortie Tuesday, I would like to write about a very special Tortie in my life; my Auntie Mattie. She lives with my Mommy's mom (my Grandma)so that makes her my auntie! I'm very proud to have Auntie Mattie in my family because she is definitely full of tortietude and a wonderful example of how special Torties are.

Grandma adopted two 2 year old cats in 2003; Mattie, a tortoiseshell and Sally, a calico.

Mattie was rescued by the shelter in winter 2003 and very pregnant. She was totally matted all over her body, which is where they got her name. 2 days after she was rescued, house mother Vicki came down in the morning to see that Mattie had ripped out all the matted fur on her belly to enable her babies to feed, and she had already given birth to 3 kittens. 3 more followed but 1 didn't make it. The next day, another cat that was rescued and brought to Vicki, also very pregnant, gave birth to 6 kittens, but did not survive giving birth. Mattie, without even a moments hesitation, took on the other 6 kittens as well as her own. She gave them all equal time and treated all 11 as her babies.

Mattie is a hunter by choice. When Grandma got her, she regularly escaped and was very hard to catch, but usually had a bird in her mouth when she was found. Shortly after she moved in with Grandma, she had to have 9 teeth removed because of damage from malnutrition and living on her own, but still was a super mouse, shrew, chipmunk and bat destroyer in the house Grandma lived in. She once caught a deer parasite from the mice she regularly ate and nearly died, but fought back to her current perfect health. Grandma lived in a rural house near Ottawa that seemed to have an entrance for mice and rodents, so to protect Mattie from getting sick again from the mice, she had to do a better job at catching them herself. Sally was totally inept and uninterested in hunting and actually screamed when confronted by rodents. Mattie would hear her sister's screams and arrive on the scene in a split second to catch the offending rodent. Even with 4 teeth on top and none on the bottom, she made fast work of them all. Mattie caught a chipmunk once and led poor Grandma on a wild cat chase with the poor lil' chippy dangling and spraying blood everywhere up the stairs onto 2 light carpets in 2 rooms and finally back to the living room where Mattie lay under a glass table with one paw over the dead chipmunk and ,looking up through the glass, meowed very loudly and proudly, with blood all over her face. Grandma was horrified but Mattie was so proud of herself that Grandma had to congratulate her.

Grandma has since moved to an apartment where she doesn't have the mouse problem that she did in that big old house, but Mattie still finds a way to hunt by catching flies and spiders.

She has since had to have the rest of her teeth removed, but she still eats her dry food somehow (even though Grandma offers her wet food, of course)! Poor Mattie had a terrible start in life but now that she lives with Grandma, she is thriving and very happy.

I am very proud of my wonderful Auntie Mattie and I hope that one day my Mom will let me get some hunting lessons from her! I'm not holding my breath, though. Mommy has a weak stomach when it comes to those sort of things...

Mattie has a fascination for computers so I'm hoping that I can convince her to write some Tortie Tuesday lessons in the future. I know I could learn a lot from my auntie!

Mancat Monday

Ya know that feeling when you rediscover a comfortable old haunt that you had completely forgotten about? Today was so hot that even I, a cat, was sweating. I happened, unexpectedly, upon a neglected retreat; the cool, porcelain receptacle on top of the counter in the bathroom!

I have decided that I will not leave until the weather cools down.

Hey Mom? Can you bring my food in here?

It is so hard to find good help these days!

Finally Friday

For those of you who may be expecting them, we unfortunately don't have a Friday Funnies today. The humans should have one ready by next Friday, though.

Friday means that Mommy comes home in an even better mood than usual and she pours herself a drink in this funny-shaped blue glass.

And sometimes she has more than one and starts laughing at things that aren't even funny!

When she has three glasses, it gets a little difficult to watch.

She gets even more snuggly than usual with us so, despite her silly behavior, we really love Fridays!

Ummm don't you think you've had enough, Mommy?

I also wanted to send out some purrs to my good buddy Dobby. He's not feeling very well with some pee problems and, because I recently had a similar problem, I know it does not feel good! Feel better soon, Dobby!

Have a great weekend!

Thankful Thursday

Thank you all so much for visiting me on my Gotcha Day last Sunday! I had a great time remembering how nice it was to move in to this place and be loved and fed after being on my own. My wish is that every kitty gets to experience this in their lives and to help that wish come true, I've chosen to donate my allowance this month to The Sphinx Project in Montreal. Their mission is to find permanent homes for abandoned, lost or mistreated cats in Montreal. I think it's the perfect place for me to donate.

Mommy has donated before to these wonderful people because she really likes how they work. There are a couple of Torties on the adoption page that I hope get adopted (along with all the other ones!) so I'm donating my saved up allowance so far this month ($15.00). Hopefully we can give more again soon!

Because it was recently my Gotcha Day,Mommy wanted to share this picture that was taken a couple of days after I arrived here. The quality is very bad because it was taken with her old web cam, but it shows how small I was.

Look how big I am now!

Tortie Tuesday

A little while back I mentioned that Mommy was getting hypnotized for weight loss. Well, she had it done, and she came back from her appointment and I noticed right away that she hadn't lost any weight! I didn't want to upset her but something had gone horribly wrong! She explained that it doesn't happen right away and that weight loss is gradual and she would lose weight when she stopped eating so much and kept on her new exercise program. The reason she went to get hypnotized was because she needed her sub-conscious mind to work with her conscious mind to help her to stop sleep-eating and over-eating in general. I was thinking - if she already knew that it was just a matter of eating less and exercising more, why did she need to be hypnotized? I thought it would be better if I didn't approach her with this logic, though. Humans are odd; they eat when they're not hungry, don't eat when they're hungry, cry when they're happy and say 'I'm fine' when they're clearly not!

My vet tells me that I'm a perfect weight, so I've come to the conclusion that I should be Mommy's personal trainer and dietitian. She is welcome to share my grain-free kibble and raw food and I'm sure The Ball Guy would be happy to make her run up and down the hall to chase a ball like he does with me. I'll even run up and down the hall with her to encourage her. The Ball Guy will do this constantly as long as you lie on your back and let him rub your tummy every once and awhile. Mommy may have to learn to do that, but it's really not that difficult and I can show her how. She also needs to know that he uses a lot of silly language and calls me 'You-u-u-u' and 'Rrrrrrrrrrrubbbins'. I have no idea what he'll call her! It's just best to act like it's really not that unusual so he won't get uncomfortable and just keeps throwing that ball.

One thing I have noticed about Mommy since she has been hypnotized is she really eats a lot less! She'll say 'I can't eat another bite' after she's eaten only 1/3 of what she used to eat! I thought at first she must be joking until I started eating her leftovers and she didn't even try to stop me. The wonderful thing about Mommy's leftovers is she and I have a very similar taste in food (although she still refuses to try my raw food) so everything is so yummy! I've made it very clear, though, if I catch her going for my cat treats, she'll have to go through me first!

All in all, Mommy says she feels wonderful after her hypnosis and a happy Mommy means a happy Deli! I will keep on her to exercise with The Ball Guy and I and hopefully all of her 'consciouses' keep cooperating so I will continue to get leftover salmon!

Happy Tortie Tuesday!

Mancat Monday

Tristan and Crikey suggested that I name my Fat Penguin from the girls at The Casbah Kitten, Chilly Willy.

Chilly is such a great friend. I wanted to show you all some of the fun things we do together.

Here I am giving him the standard cat welcome - I'm sniffing him up!

In this photo, Chilly is trying to pose like me. Chilly is my mini-me! Right down to the pink toesies.

In this picture, I'm cleaning his back feathers. He didn't like that I covered his face with my paw and he got a little mad.

Oops! Chilly almost fell off the big cliff! C'mere little buddy. Hang on to my claw.

This game is called 'Find Samson's head in all the floof'. Chilly likes this game the most.

Here I am just chillin' with Chilly. We get a little tired sometimes.

Hey Chilly! Where'd you go?

Oh no! Deli's got him now. Chilly, be careful...Deli is not nearly as gentle as I am!

Have a great Monday!

P.S. Delilah wanted me to thank you all for coming by to celebrate her Gotcha Day yesterday! We are so stuffed on treats and nip and we hope you all had a good time too.

Delilah's Gotcha Day!

Today is my 3-year Gotcha Day!

Thank you, Ann from Zoolatry for the beautiful graphic!

I am so happy I found my Mommy and I am pretty sure she's happy she found me! I was so hungry, wandering around all alone outside. This place is warm, loving and there's all the food I can eat. We're a very happy family when you add Samson and The Ball Guy coming over sometimes to play fetch with me. My life is beautiful!

Samson used his allowance and got me this cool incline scratcher! So far none of us have used it as an actual scratcher (except Mommy when she was showing us how it's used) but the ball in it is very fun to bat around.

Samson, the lazy one, discovered that it makes a great nap place.

Today is also the first time I get to celebrate my Gotcha Day with all my wonderful friends in the Cat Blogosphere! To get the party started, we have plenty of treats, toys and nip to go around.

To make things even more exciting, we won a contest over at Baby Patches' blog! We won a container of Cat-Man-Doo Dried Bonito Flakes! We're so excited because they look so yummy! Samson and I are both big fans of fishy flavors.

My wish is that all the kitties that have not been gotcha'd, will hit the jackpot like I did, so I'm going to make a donation this week to a cat charity (I haven't decided which one yet) to help my dream come true. I've been saving my allowance so I'll let you all know which one I decide on later this week.

Thank you all for visiting me and I hope you have a wonderful day!

Thoughts on Thursday

August 10th was the 3rd anniversary of the death of our Mommy's beloved Muddy. She said she forgot about it this year until yesterday so she thinks that it must be getting easier. I think it's just because she has us Monkeys to see and think about every day, so it's easier to forget. Mommy said that the hurt seems to be going away but the love never fades.

She said she thinks Muddy visited her a couple of months ago when she woke up in the middle of the night to a cat head-butt and Samson and I were nowhere to be seen. Muddy, if you're visiting, wake me up too! I've got some cool toys we can play with.

This picture makes Mommy smile because it was shortly after he had been shaved so his hair is all short. He was trying to clean himself but there were just some places he couldn't reach!

She still misses you, Muddy!

Muddy's departure meant that it was not long until my arrival. Yep, my Gotcha Day is on Sunday! The Powers That Be sent me to Mommy only 6 days after he left because she was a real mess. Of course, sending a Tortie is one of the most efficient ways to get the job done right. Mommy wrote about my Gotcha Day quite recently, so I won't bore you with the details. If you want to read it, click here

We'll be celebrating my Gotcha Day on Sunday, so hopefully you can pass by!

P.S. We just found out that Bugsy from The Kitty Krew is having surgery today to remove his eye so please send purrs and good thoughts over for him!

P.P.S It is our good friend Andy's 9th birthday today! Please drop by to wish him a very happy birthday
