Tortie Love

The Ball Guy has been without a cat in his home for 5 years now. When he lost his best buddy Toop 5 years ago, he was devastated and was hesitant to get another cat. Well Samson and I have changed that for him. Do you really think he comes over to see Mommy? Nah, he's here to see me! Since he met me, he's been looking at torties all the time, dreaming about having one (or two) all to himself! I give him as much affection as I can, but I think he needs some when he's at his house too.

Mommy has been working on a surprise for him for a Christmas gift for a long time. She wants to get him two torties, preferably sisters and kittens (but older ones are fine too). She's lousy at keeping secrets so when she found these kittens online yesterday, she immediately told The Ball Guy.

They're 6 weeks old and will be ready for adoption on November 15th. Normally she wouldn't actually post about them until she was sure that she could get them, but she knows the magic of the CB and what positive purrs from our friends can do.

Please keep your paws crossed! The Ball Guy definitely needs some full-time tortie love.

Portrait Contest

Samson and I are very excited because The Ball Guy has offered to do a pen and ink portrait of one of our friends!

The prize is an original pen and ink (black and white) 8 1/2 x 11 portrait of one of you!

To enter, you will need to submit a photo or a link to your photo to us at themonkeycats at gmail.com (or just use the email link in our Blogger profile). The photo must be clear and in focus and the higher resolution the better, with a minimum of 1200 px on a side or at least 1 megapixel. All submissions received before Thursday, November 5th at 6pm EST, will be entered into the draw. Any cat (or dog) is eligible, even if we've never met you before. Don't forget to include your name and blog name (if applicable) when you submit your photo.

You can see The Ball Guy's work on our Friday Funnies blog but here is an example of a portrait he did of me.

We'll be announcing the winner by random draw on next Friday's blog.

Have a great weekend!

P.S. I forgot to mention that in multiple cat (and dog) households, you can enter one of each of your existing pets. One photo per pet per household.

Imposter!

I found this very strange looking Samson in our house! I don't know who he thinks he is, but he's definitely not a cat I know.

Hey you! Do...you...speak...English?

Maybe I should try LOL speak?

He's even slower than Samson. I guess he doesn't realize that ignoring me makes me mad and now I'm gonna have to hurt him.

This is more like it...at least I can have a conversation with this Samson. ZzzzzZZzzz...

Wild Wednesday

Awhile back, Mommy received a gift certificate for The Beaded Tail's Etsy shop from Katie at Mishkat's. Mommy is a big fan of The Beaded Tail jewelry so she was very excited. Yesterday she received her order in the mail and in the note in the package, Sharla said that the beautiful ladycat Angel helped her get the package ready.

Angel sent some very lovely scents all the way from Oregon to Canada and it made me a little bit wild!

That ladycat makes me act up! Thank you, Angel!

Mommy had the same reaction as I did to her earrings! Okay, not really, but it was funny imagining her rolling all over the floor. But she really does love her earrings and, although she bought two pairs for herself and one for a Christmas gift, she is having a really hard time choosing which one to give away!

Mommy asked me to say thank you to Katie for being so wonderful and to Sharla for making such beautiful things!

Tortie Tuesday

Mommy found and scanned some photos of me a few days after I arrived here at my forever home. I told her NOT to publish these photos because 1.) The quality of the pictures is terrible and 2.) I was undernourished and my fur was 'ratty'.

Mommy reassured me that, just because I had a rough start, I would not ruin my image as a tough tortie. Instead it would be more like a success story of how far I've come from then. This was acceptable to me, although the quality of the pictures is still awful!

I was about 3 months old when these shots were taken and I was full of fleas and very hungry. I figured out pretty quickly that this place was perfect, though. I made myself at home right away.

Mommy thinks I was a cutie, but I'm just happy I grew out of that phase and turned into the strong, fluffy tortie I am now!

Mancat Monday

The weather is getting cooler by the day in this part of the world, so even though I'm an indoor cat, I've started growing my winter coat.

Mommy always laughs at my floofy collar. She says I remind her of William Shakespeare (but thankfully she thinks I'm much cuter)!

And with my dramatic speaking voice, she thinks she has a small, fluffy reincarnation of Shakespeare!

Hmmm, maybe if I try this Shakespeare thing with Deli, she'll pay more attention to me!

"Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight!/ For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night."

She's not impressed...maybe I'll try another play next time.

A Job Well Done

Do you know that feeling you get when you work really hard on something and when it's done, you just know you did a great job?

Samson and I have been working tirelessly on proving to Mommy that, even though she got a really good deal on her computer chair, she still paid far too much.

This chair was clearly a better scratching post than a chair!

You can always sleep better with a job well done.

Remembering Nosey

Awhile back, we handed over our blog to Mommy's friend Leanne and her two beautiful cats Fluffy and Nosey. Sadly, Nosey passed away on October 13th at the age of 17 from kidney failure. Nosey's mom wanted to say a few words and share some photos of her sweet little girl.

She was such a special little angel. I still remember the day she picked me as clear as can be...hard to believe that was 17 years ago! My ex-boyfriend and I were looking for a kitten and we happened to stop into a little animal shelter we were driving by out in the country. There were a few kittens we looked at, and then I noticed one beautiful cat a bit older still in the cage. The woman working told me we likely would not want her as she was very timid and didn't like people (was scared of them actually, she was a rescue). I told the woman I'd like to see her and the lady was shocked. She opened the door and Nosey literally jumped into my arms and snuggled in. Needless to say I knew I had found my cat - what I didn't know was just how special she was and how close we'd become. We went through everything together, I mean I've had her with me my entire adult life. I told her everything! And I swear she understood what I was saying most of the time!

When my ex and I broke up it was such a hard time for me and she was right at my side to comfort me. She would know when I was sad and crying and would come over and just cuddle right into my lap or give me kisses. I really could use her here now! She was a very loving cat, she absolutely adored Tigger (my parents cat who passed a few years ago). Tigger was an outdoor cat (Nosey thankfully never had the desire to roam), and if he wanted in and nobody was around she'd go nuts trying to get someones attention so they would come and let him in. And as if that was not enough, she figured out how to actually open the patio doors to let him in! (apparently there were just too many times we did not come fast enough!). Smart little girl.

And everyday she would sit at the door and wait for me to come home. She would then follow me everywhere I went. Its funny, people always try to say that dogs are so loyal and cats are not, but Nosey's affection for me way surpassed that of any dog I've ever had. We had such a special bond, I just can't believe that she's actually gone. I know that it was the only compassionate thing to do, but on some silly level I think I really believed that she would be here with me forever. When I was in my early 20s her and I made a pact that we would stay together forever ...and I think that even though she was in so much pain, she was trying to stick to that. About 8 years ago she got sick (due to complications with her diabetes) and the doctor told me she would not make the night. She held on and fought for 8 more years! And she would have kept going with the bad kidneys too, that was just the type of cat she was, but when the vet told me she was really suffering just trying not to show it, I knew I had to let her go. The way I see it is heaven now has a wonderful angel, and I know she will be looking out for all the cats of the world.

Anyway, in a nutshell that was my Nosey. She is missed so much. I'm doing my best to focus on the good times we had together and not dwell on the fact she's gone. There was a great line in Sunday at Tiffany's that I keep trying to remember - love means never really being apart! She will always be in my heart.

We are sending our love, hugs and purrs to Leanne and Fluffy.

Tortie Tuesday

Mommy is feeling much better and she wants me to thank you all for the well-wishes and purrs. She is feeling so wonderful, that she actually put on regular clothes yesterday (instead of the pajamas she's been wearing for the last week)!

Unfortunately for me, this meant she was feeling well enough to harass me for Tortie Tuesday photos.

I wasn't having it. I knew she was there with the camera but I didn't acknowledge her.

Can you believe this fever-stricken human and the lengths she'll go to get my photo? It's not like she doesn't have a thousand other pictures of me that she can use!

I've got to do something to get her away from me so I can resume my nap.

Alright, take the photo quickly and then go away!

That should work. This is how it's done, friends!

Mancat Monday

I'm very excited because Jane and Alice at The Casbah Kitten are having a Halloween contest!

Delilah and I don't wear clothes so we assumed we wouldn't be able to participate in the festivities this year, but Jane and Alice made allowances for cats like us that prefer to live life in the buff.

Mommy entered this photo of me and wrote that I was 'dressed up as Sylvester The Cat'

I think she's a little mistaken - it looks more like Sylvester is trying to look like ME!

I think I've had enough of this copy cat! He's not even sociable. Take him away, please!

Finally Friday

It's been one of those weird weeks here at the Monkeys'. First Mommy went away and The Ball Guy took care of us (which was great) and then he got sick and then Mommy came home and she got sick and The Ball Guy went home with his feverish self and left a very sniffly and grumpy Mommy with us!

Samson and I were doing our best to catch this Ham Flu until Mommy told us that cats can't get it. Even weirder, both Mommy and The Ball Guy don't seem to be enjoying it. Who doesn't love ham?

If things don't change around here, I think I'd like to trade in my humans for ones that actually do things instead of lying around groaning and complaining! Here's hoping that they both go back to normal for the weekend.

P.S. Our Mom is so out of it that she forgot it was National Feral Cat Day! To honor National Feral Cat Day, I had some allowance left and I made a small donation to The Beaufort Community Cat Project where Dana from The Creek Cats volunteers. We love what they do for feral kitties!

I'm a Monkey!

Our Mom is home sick with a flu, and because everyone is worried about that Ham Flu, she decided to stay home until she isn't contagious rather than go to work and infect the whole office. We're keeping her warm and making sure she gives us plenty of fluids so we don't get sick too (although Ham Flu sounds kinda yummy)!

It's a little boring around here because Mommy is a big lump in bed so I wanted to talk about something very exciting - my favorite toy of all time, the catnip banana by Yeowww! You can get them through Baby Patches' store.

Deli and I had never tried these out until Tristan and Crikey sent us our Paw it Forward box back in June. That was the day we discovered what it means to be a true Monkey! I am finally complete. I am a Monkey with a catnip banana

Our nip naners are old and covered in drool stains and Mommy keeps wanting to get us a new one...but we're just fine with these ones.

Even though we have two, Delilah still tries to steal mine. Girls are mean!

Have a great Thursday!

Tortie Tuesday

Mommy finally came back late last night from her trip. She was very surprised to see that The Ball Guy had managed to cut off the last of a terrible knot of fur I had on my back!

It is such a relief to me because it was starting to itch terribly and I knew that Mommy was on the verge of bringing me to a groomer to have me shaved! It's bad enough that they cut away some of my fur, but a groomer would have taken so much more.

It was so large and in the center of my back so there was something I've wanted to do for a long time but couldn't do comfortably with that big tangle of fur - sleep on my back!

Ahhh yes! This is the life!

P.S Mommy says that because she's been out of town and not near a computer until last night, she hasn't had time to help us visit our friends. She took today off so she'll help us catch up on our visits.

Mancat Monday

For all of you who commented on Friday to let The Ball Guy know to give me treats while Mommy's been away, I thank you very much. I must say though, it's been an exhausting weekend being cute for treats.

As much as I like The Ball Guy, I'm really looking forward to Mommy coming home today for some Mommy-quality snuggles!

Thanksgiving Weekend

This weekend it's Thanksgiving in Canada and Mommy is going away to visit her brothers and mother in Ontario. The Ball Guy is staying with Delilah and I. She should be arriving home sometime on Monday, but I thought I'd show you how I'll be working to get treats from The Ball Guy when Mommy is not here.

Pretty cute, huh? One would think he'd just melt and run immediately to get me treats, but he's a tough nut to crack.

Is it possible to leave a comment and let The Ball Guy know that Mommy always gives me treats when I do this? I don't think he's aware. Thanks!

To our Canadian friends, we wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and a fantastic weekend to everyone else!

P.S. Once again the humans were too busy to finish a Friday Funnies, but we're hoping they can finally do one for next Friday!

Green Litter

Drew from World's Best Cat Litter sent us another bag of their awesome litter with their new look!

We have to admit that while we love the litter, we haven't been using it since we tested and reviewed it. Our Mom is convinced that the price in Canada, and in particular, the province where we live (Quebec), is way higher than anywhere else.

We tried Feline Fresh Clumping, which is made from pine and we really liked it a lot. Although it was high-quality litter, the price was half the price of World's Best. The smell was great and the clumping was perfect and we both used the litter without any hesitation. The only problem with it was, the little pine particles were so light and small, that we would track it all over the apartment (and Deli ended up with some little pine danglies on her rear floof).

One day, while Mommy was in the grocery store, she decided to check the ingredients of a store brand 'green' litter just to see what made them environmentally friendly. To her surprise, it was made with corncobs, flushable, clumpable and supposedly had great odor control. The price was only $7.49 CDN for 3.2 kg (about 7 pounds), which is 1/3 the price of World's Best and 1/2 the price of Feline Fresh. The brand is President's Choice Green Cat Litter and is available in Canada at all grocery stores that sell the President's Choice line of products. We tried it out and we couldn't be more pleased. It doesn't look the same as World's Best Cat Litter (it's a lot darker), but it works really well, and unless World's Best comes down drastically in price in our area, we'll continue to use it.

Just to be clear, we think the price of World's Best (and a lot of other imported products) in our particular area of Canada is inflated because of import and tax laws, so our opinions are only based on local pricing.

N.B. On the weekend, our Mom went to Ontario to visit her brothers and she found a 3.2 kg bag of World's Best Cat litter for only $9.99(which is far more reasonable considering how long WBCL lasts)! She was so surprised because in Montreal, the same bag is $25.00! This was so shocking to her and she wonders why there are so many more taxes and duties here in Quebec.

Now, just to break up the poop talk, here's a picture of me!

Tortie Tuesday

It is ridiculous how much time these humans spend on the computer! Facebook this, email that, it's a wonder that Samson and I ever get to blog!

I'm the type of tortie that takes important matters into my own paws, so I've decided to stage a bit of a protest. See that blue button under my armpit? That's the computer on/off button. If Mommy spends too long playing her frivolous online games, or chatting with friends, I'll press the button...I won't even hesitate.

She's always waiting until the last minute to help us blog and this has got to stop!

Do I look intimidating enough? I hope so because she has a huge weight advantage over me so I have to over-compensate with intimidation.

I don't mean to be so tough on her, because in general she's a really good Mommy, it's just best to keep her on her toes.

I promise I'll give her some snuggles after she finishes my post ;)

Delilah

P.S. You can see where the humans viciously removed some of my furs because I had some knots from running through my nylon tunnel continuously. I'm doing my best to grow it back quickly!
