Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet

This week is Adopt-a-less-adoptable-pet week.

I asked Mommy if I could write this post because, believe it or not, I was a less-adoptable cat at one time.

I know...how is that possible?   Well, it seems that my calendar age is a tad high (12) and a lot of people don't want to be bothered with an older cat no matter how healthy they are.

My story was a little sad.  I was left alone in the home I had shared with my owner after he died.  Finally, after a week of waiting for him to come home and feed me, his daughter remembered I was there and brought me in to the vet to be 'put down'.   Thankfully the vet did not agree with my owner's daughter and called a rescue.  I waited for four miserable months for my forever home, and during that time, not one person even wanted to give me a try.  The rescue lady told my Mommy that people would inquire about me, but as soon as they heard my age and that I was a little sad because my owner had died, they didn't want to risk adopting me.  When Mommy finally called for me, the rescue lady told Mommy that it was very good of her to give me a chance and that I was very lucky.  After a month with me, Mommy called the rescue lady to tell her that she was the lucky one that got to adopt me!  It just took a little time to help me get settled, and now Mommy says she loves me as much as the other Monkeys.  Give an older girl (or boy) a chance.  We might surprise you!

On that note, I've selected a local 'less adoptable' cat  to highlight who is in a similar situation to what I went through.

His name is Flame and, if I do say so myself, he's a very handsome Mancat!  He is currently being fostered through the Animal Rescue Network here in Montreal

You can see his Petfinder profile by clicking HERE.

His story sounds a lot like mine in that someone tried to dispose of him when he was no longer needed.  This is what the website says about him:
Flame was “His Majesty” for a cat breeder. But, after several years of good and loyal services, the breeder decided that Flame was no longer necessary and that he should be euthanized. Luckily, a volunteer caught wind of this situation and saved Flame from a fate that he did not deserve. Flame is quite sweet, calm, and a bit reserved with strangers. He prefers being the only cat in the household, or to share his home with animals that are as calm as he is.
I am purring that this handsome boy gets adopted soon.
Bella

Bella, I cannot believe some heartless human wanted to put you down for no reason! Or that others would pass you up. Some things in this world make no sense to this kitty....

Hearing your story is very motivational! There are so many good reasons to adopt a more 'seasoned' pet. After all, just like humans, age is just a number. It's the experience that counts!

But it sounds like it all worked out as you ended up in the perfect home for you!!

Oh Bella, we are so glad you found the Monkeys and got such a good home. You sure deserved it. Nothing wrong with a little bit older cat. Actually they are a lot easier to have around.
We sure hope Flame finds a home too. Thanks for telling us your story Bella.

Bella - Mum has shed a few tears over your gotcha story and also of that of Flame. There are some despicable people in this world.
We think you are a real cutie Bella and we are glad we are friends.

Mum says she can relate to your story so much because our Dollycat who was with mum when I arrived had a similar story. Dollycat was a showcat and when she was ( past her sell by date ) as they said ,she was going that week to be put to sleep. Mum took her and with a lot of patience and loving she became a beautiful cat who loved mum as much as mum loved her. Dollycat got a few more years in a loving home. Sometime people just render us speechless with their dont care attitude. Animals are not a disposable commodity. They deserve much better. Mum says sorry for the rant.. We are so glad your mum found you and that you are now once again loved.. hugs GJn xx

Bella
Our Mom really wishes that she had inherited a fortune only to help those animals whose pawrents were critically ill or died. She has such sympathy for those animals who are left behind and through no fault of their own are suddenly 'left'. All too often the pawrents family do not want the animal and think that they will 'put it down' is just too abhorrent to our Mom. We are so glad that you are a Monkey and our Mom agrees with your Mom adopt an older kitty...I was 6 when Mom adopted me and she said she would adopt more older kitties ...

Mac came to us in almost the same situation, except no one wanted to put him down. He was older and hot in the best of health, but he is loved and has turned in to a very loving mancat! We are so happy your mommy gave you a chance!

Bella, we're so happy your mommy found you and made you a Monkey! You are such a beautiful girl and we are so glad the vet saw that and gave you a chance. We sure hope someone does the same for handsome Flame too. We'll be purring for him!

Bella, it makes us cry to think of you being heartlessly taken to a vet to be PTS...when your former owner loved you and cared for you...we too would love to inherit big bucks to have a rescue org devoted to kitties like you.

All of us here had prior homes (well except for me...I just came with my momma as a 2 week old kit) so we all know abandonment.

Bella, big purrs to the vet who refused to end your beautiful life. We purr thinking of you as adorable as you are with your loving Monkey family.
