Finally Friday

I had my vet trip yesterday and my doctor tested my scabs and has ruled out an infection or skin disease. He has confirmed that it is most likely an allergy.

I have started scratching again and I'm very uncomfortable, so they decided that since the Prednisone helped so much last time, they would give me another round of medication so that I can have some relief, and then Mommy will do some experimenting with different foods to check to see if my symptoms come back. If the food trials are unsuccessful, I will have to go back to the vet and get skin tests for inhalants. Mommy is also going to add some Evening Primrose oil to my diet to help my skin (Thanks for the suggestion, Milo and Alfie's Mum!). If any of you have any suggestions for food, Mommy would love to hear them. She wants to keep me on a grain-free diet with some raw food, if possible, but she will try anything if it will keep me comfortable and symptom free.

In the meantime, I'm just happy I will have relief as soon as my medication kicks in. A good long snooze is in order!

Oh dear, allergies are really horrible and stressful. We found out that our Tommy is allergic to mosquito bites and is now a little bit better using a topical cream of low steroid percentage. Tommy is also getting baths using special shampoo of mild antiseptic and conditioner.
Hope Samson feels better soon.

Samson, we're glad you have such a wonderful mom who is taking good care of you. We hope she figures out the allergy. Could it be to a protein? Can she try a different protein for you, maybe just a single-source protein food to see how that goes? If it's a food allergy, that can be so hard to sort out.

Paws crossed she finds what works for you, Samson!

Hi there Samson, that is good that you at least found out what is wrong. Our Mom seems to think that is it was a food allergy, he would have some loose poo. See if Mom can think of any different cleaner she has used lately. Or different litter in your poo box. Or just anything different in your life. We think the pred will work just great so maybe you will stop itching soon. That is the cutest picture of you snoozing. Feel better you handsome thing.

Samson, we hope that med helps you stop itching. We all eat grain free....Wellness, Wellness Core, Blue Buffalo, Instinct (all canned) and the dry food we get is either Hills d/d or Royal Canin limited ingredient diet...both venison & peas. Ernie eats canned Natural Balance venison & peas which is their allergy food. We've never tried raw. Did your vet suggest a single-protein diet...like venison, duck or rabbit? That's what our vet recommended for Ernie.

(pee ess. we love Rumbles' comment!)

Oh dear Samson we are sorry your allergy is making you furry itchy. Do you have spot on flea protection cos we wondered if that could make you itchy? Would you like us to come over and gently massage your itches away - just let us know.

I hope your itchies clear up soon!
My Cody had the same thing and the vet put him on canned Rabbit by Royal Canin and dry rabbit and pea flavor cat food.
He has been on that for a few months now and the itchies have GONE AWAY!

Samson, our Jonesie, Madison and Ginger all get the itchies too and we think for different reasons. I think we are going to try the Evening Primrose oil too.

If you are allergic to Torties, maybe you could try hanging out with big dramatic tabbygirls. I'll send Ginger.

Lots of other cats have had itchy skin too - we are very allergic to a flea bite and that sets us off - even one flea. Hope you feel better.

Samson I am so sorry to hear you are feeling uncomfortable, hopefully the prednisone will help!

Jimmy eats Hills D/D which is just venison and peas; he eats the wet food because he didn't like the dry option. Even though we found out that his skin issue is that bad infection, we are still keeping him on this food because he could have an underlying allergy too!

I've seen a lot of vets using OTC hoomin Zyrtec (in very low dose, like 1/4 tablet) in cats to great effect. I think it 2mg a day (which would actually be 1/5 of a tablet - good luck with that MOL) and is supposedly even better than Preds, which, as it's a steroid, has it's own serious side effects risks. Just a thought!

Oh Samson, I'm sorry you've got the itchy allergies. My Sister Zoe had bad itchy times too. We slowly switched out to Blue Buffalo and she (and the rest of us) is doing better and her furs have almost all grown back. It does take some experimenting, but switch slowly to avoid tummy troubles.

Itchies are awful! Samson, everybody has such good suggestions...we thought maybe benadryl for interim relief?
Grayce has a grain allergy and wet food has cleared it up completely. We hope you find a food that works and that you LIKE!
